Considering this bat is for a young player many of the quantifiable measures of bat quality for older players aren't particularly relevant. That said, at this price point this bat is a step up in terms of materials. Made from 7050 series aluminum which is a step up (stronger, stiffer alloy aluminium) from the entry level bats priced from $20 to $40.

Really the most important thing in choosing a bat is that you get the right length and weight for your child. There are many charts that point you in the right direction regarding length but no real good information on appropriate weight. Obviously its much harder to categorize strength by size alone.

The only way I was finally able to decide was to take my son to the sporting goods store and let him hold and swing several bats. I purchased this bat for my son when he was 9 and just entering little league. He's been gradually overcoming low muscle tone since birth so he needed a long yet light bat to help ensure he could move the bat around quickly enough to make the pitch. Using this model at 29/16.5, his batting has improved and he's able to get on base but I've noticed for two seasons now, this bat has also been very popular by his team mates. Even the big hitters that have no problem with a heavier bat are using this one and calling it their lucky bat. Half way through it's second season, this bat looks like an old reliable battle axe with white leather scuffs all over it from where it crushed various pitches.

This well loved bat is a great piece of equipment at a great price.

Our grandson is a Little Leaguer who was thrilled with the bat for a Christmas present. Of course he won't get to try it out until spring!
